Our Buy Back Program was our initiative to become more sustainable as a business and allow our customers to have a positive impact on the planet. All of our decisions around the type of packaging for takeaway and deliver had a big emphasis on trying to choose materials that we're able to be recycled or biodegradable whilst not compromising on the quality of our product.

Most of our smaller containers and bags were able to fit the criteria. However we could not find a suitable replacement for our bingsu containers. It wasn't feasible to deliver them in anything else other than the Styrofoam containers as they would melt too quickly or not last the trip.

After some research we found out that our bingsu containers can be recycled but they would need to be sent to a specific transfer station for recycling. We knew this was something that was too much of an ask of our customers to go out of their daily schedule to drop off our containers to a recycling station.

We were more than happy to deliver the containers ourselves to the recycling station but we needed to collect the containers first. We wanted our customers to be rewarded in doing a good deed and choosing to be more sustainable with us. Therefore, the buy back program aims to reward customers with a discount code for returning their bingsu containers to us so that we are then able to deliver them to the recycling station to be processed and turned into something new.

It was great to see how many people were so happy with our new initiative. We know that over time, ordering many containers of bingsu can appear to be very wasteful and add to our ongoing problem of waste ending up in landfills. However, this initiative hopes to decrease Scoopy's personal impact on the problem and allow everyone who orders from us to have a choice to be more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
